Metallic chemical element, symbol Al, atomic number 13, atomic weight 26.9815, which belongs to the IIIA group of the periodic system. Pure aluminium is soft and has little mechanical resistance, but can form alloys with other elements to increase its resistance and acquire several useful properties. Aluminium alloys are lightweight, strong and easy to achieve by many processes of metalwork. They are easy to assemble, to cast or to machine and they accept a wide range of finishes. For its physical, chemical and metallurgy properties, aluminium has become the most used non-ferric metal.
